Creating a CSV file from Microsoft Access

Creating a CSV file from Microsoft Access (database) is similar to that from Excel, but there are a few more steps. Fortunately a "wizard" helps you through the stages.

With Access running, and the data being displayed in a table:

  1. From the menu select "File" and then "Save As/Export..."
  2. On the first window just press OK
  3. On the next window
  4. From the "Save as type:" drop down list, select "Text Files (*.txt;*.csv;*.tab;*.asc)"
  5. Give your file a meaningful name, and add the .csv extension instead of the .txt extension
  6. Make sure that the checkbox "save formatted" is empty
  7. Click in the button marked "Export"
  8. Next screen:
  9. Just click "next..." and on the next screen, change "Text Qualifier" to {none}
  10. Then click "next..." and finally: name the file with a .csv extension, and click on "Finish"
